Following the glowing second season reviews and pre-release high-interest levels, HBO has renewed its Emmy-winning drama series for a third season just days ahead of its highly anticipated return on Sunday.Reviews have confirmed that the second season adapts the first half of “The Last of Us Part II” game. Previously co-creator and showrunner Craig Mazin and franchise creator and series co-creator Neil Druckmann have indicated that at least one more season, possibly two, will be needed to finish adapting that game.
What’s not stated in the renewal order is if the third will be the final season and leaves some key questions unanswered – namely how many episodes will that third season be, and what rough production and air dates are they aiming for.(function (d, s, b) {var mElmt, primisElmt = d.createElement('script');primisElmt.

In an official statement, Mazin, Druckmann, and HBO Drama Series and Films head Francesca Orsi all say: Mazin: “We approached season two [trailer below] with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew. We look forward to continuing the story of The Last of Us with season three.
”Druckmann: “To see The Last of Us brought to life so beautifully and faithfully has been a career highlight for me, and I am grateful for the fans’ enthusiastic and overwhelming support. Much of that success is thanks to my partner in crime, Craig Mazin, our partnership with HBO, and our team at PlayStation Productions. On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog, our cast, and crew, thank you so much for allowing us this opportunity.
We’re thrilled to bring you more of The Last of Us.”Orsi: “It can’t be overemphasized how proud HBO is for the outstanding achievement we believe the second season of The Last of Us is. Craig, Neil, Carolyn and the entire executive producer team, cast and crew have delivered a masterful follow-up and we’re thrilled to carry the power of Craig and Neil’s storytelling into what we know will be an equally moving and extraordinary third season.
”The seven episode second season currently sits at an 83/100 on Metacritic from over three dozen reviews, just one point shy of the 84/100 the first season scored and one of the best-reviewed shows of the year so far behind “Adolescence” (91) and “Severance” season two (86), but ahead of “The Studio” (80), “The White Lotus” Sesson 3 (77) and “The Pitt” (76).“The Last of Us” begins airing Sunday, April 13th on HBO and Max with the season run wrapping by end of May.The post “The Last of Us” Renewed For Season 3 appeared first on Dark Horizons.
