The Last of Us had a chilling season 2 premiere

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Last of Us season 2, episode 1 and the video game The Last of Us Part II The Last of Us has finally returned with viewers set to get seven new episodes, making it shorter than its predecessor. Episode one titled Future Days picks up initially in the direct aftermath of Joel Miller’s (played by Pedro Pascal) brutal massacre at a hospital as he saved Ellie (Bella Ramsey), before a five-year time jump to the settlement in Jackson, Wyoming. Joel and Ellie were at odds after he lied to her about what really happened at the hospital.

The former smuggler was also going to therapy as he tried to deal with Ellie’s increasing emotional distance from him. There was also mention of a character called Eugene, the husband of Joel’s therapist Gail (Catherine O’Hara) whom he’d killed but with little explanation of the circumstances. Many fans were left emotional by the opening episodes and rushed to social media to deliver their verdict the season two premiere titled Future Days.

One person posted on X (formerly Twitter): “I’m still crying my heart fell out through my butt I feel like I’ve been stabbed [sic].” While another asked whether “the Thing happened” with the original poster responding: “no but they still managed to devastate me entirely [sic].” A third said: “I’m just going to cry forever,” while a fourth commented: “i literally started crying during the RECAP.

this season isn’t gonna go well for me. #TheLastOfUsS2 [sic].” Another person noted: “Joel really had such a hard life.

He raised his daughter on his own, then lost her in his arms & spent 20 years of his life immersed only in pain & guilt. “Then he couldn't allow himself to fully love tess, then lost her. He met ellie & saved her only to then lose her too #tlou [sic].

” A further audience member responded: “HE DESERVED TO BE HAPPY [sic].” Others commented on Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever), who was seeking revenge against Joel for killing the doctor operating on Ellie in season one. Abby told her friends how they would “kill him slowly” when they found him.

Those who have played the video game are aware of the deeply ominous foreshadowing of the scenes. One person posted: “I’m so scared and my mom and stepdad don’t know what’s going to happen but I do and I’m not prepared for it.” A second viewer said: “IM NOT READY TO SEE IT A SECOND TIME [sic].

” “Is it too much to hope that the producers of the show learn from the game's mistakes and will have Abby die at the end of the season?” a third posted. Another fan wrote: “To the non gamers I hope they are mentally ready for this gut wrenching episode.” HBO recently confirmed it had commissioned season three, so the future is bright for the hit show.

Season two serves as an adaptation of Naughty Dog’s video game The Last of Us Part II, which is twice as long as the first part. From the looks of it, season two of the HBO series will only cover half of the game’s narrative with the third series likely to adapt the remaining half. Then again, the show’s creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann previously expressed their desire for a four-season arc to The Last of Us.

HBO has yet to confirm it season three will be the last outing, so audiences will be waiting with bated breath as they watch the story play out. The Last of Us season 2 airs on HBO in the USA on Sundays and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in UK on Mondays.
