Fans of The Last of Us are hoping to spot one detail in the second season of the TV show. Series Two of the post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us is set to premiere on Sunday (April 13th). After the first season told the events of the Last of Us video game , the second season will pick up where the sequel, The Last of Us Part II, begins – five years after the events of the first game.
Those who have played the video games will no doubt be excited for what's to come, with many particularly excited for the introduction of a new character named Abby – played by Kaitlyn Dever – in addition to Pedro Pascal 's character Joel and Bella Ramsey's Ellie. But it's not just the game's intricate plot that fans are hoping will be done justice in season two – as they're also praying that some of the finer details are nailed in the TV production, too. The events of The Last of Us Part II are expected to take multiple seasons of the show to unfold, but it's one of the opening scenes that fans really hope includes one small but touching detail.
In the game, we see that Ellie and Joel have moved into the Jackson commune featured in the first game and the first season of the TV show. Players get an early glimpse of Ellie's home, and when the game came out in 2020, fans were thrilled to see she had a PlayStation 3 in her room, complete with a copy of Jak and Daxter and Uncharted 2 – games that are both made by Naughty Dog, the developer of The Last of Us. Despite the second game taking place in the 2030s, Ellie does not have a PlayStation 4 or 5 because the Cordyceps Brain Infection brought civilization to an end in September 2013, two months before the PlayStation 4 came out.
Fans are hoping they'll see this sweet nod to the game developer's other titles when the second season of the show airs. Ellie's room is not the only place in the game that has a PS3 in it either, as you can also find one in one of the abandoned high-rise apartments that you explore later in the game. And there's one other interesting detail – you can't shoot the games or the consoles.
One fan pointed out in a post on Reddit: "Apparently, Sony is super particular about how its products are presented in-game. None of the consoles in either game have any sign of damage or are able to be damaged." Another added: "Anywhere you can find a large TV on a stand [in the game], there's most likely a PS3.
Theres one at the beginning of part one in Joel's home while you play as Sarah and multiple throughout the rest of the campaign of one and two. Uncharted is also a canon game in both series." The Last of Us Part II is full of hidden details – known as Easter eggs – that fans will no doubt hope to see in the television adaptation.
During one portion of the game that takes you to Joel's house, you can inspect a photo of him and his daughter, Sarah, who died during the early stages of the outbreak. This is particularly touching as it's placed right beside a more recent photo of Joel with Ellie, indicating that he sees her as a daughter, too. The game also has players explore a toy shop that contains some Halloween gear.
In the shop is a statue that appeared in the Left Behind DLC (downloadable content) that told the story of how Ellie got the bite that exposed her immunity. Given that season one of the show has already told this story, it's possible the figure could show up again. The TV adaptation is no stranger to adding hidden details that only die-hard fans have noticed.
In the first season, the very first episode was titled "When You're Lost in the Darkness", and the finale was called "Look for the Light". Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that when put together, this spells out the slogan of the resistance group called the Fireflies, who were heavily featured in the show. The Last of Us season two airs every Sunday on HBO, starting April 13th.
