In November 2021, Britney Spears’ controversial conservatorship was officially terminated after 13 years of every aspect of both her professional and personal life being largely controlled by her father, Jamie Spears , and lawyers. The pop star spoke at length about her troubling experience under the conservatorship during her legal fight for freedom, and made a series of disturbing claims in court . Britney testified that she was forced to take mood-stabilizing medication while under the conservatorship, and also had an IUD inserted against her will to prevent her from having more children.

She went on to state that her treatment was so bad that she felt those involved in the conservatorship should be jailed. Name-checking her father specifically, she said: “My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a key role in punishing me, they should be in jail.” After she was freed from the conservatorship, Britney opened up some more in her explosive memoir, The Woman In Me , which was released in October of last year.

In the memoir, Britney recalled any effort that she made to publicly speak about her situation being silenced, and made specific reference to a chat show appearance that she made in 2016. While she did not name the specific show at the time, Britney said that she mentioned her conservatorship during the interview — but it was cut out of the edit that made it to air. “I even mentioned the conservatorship on a talk show in 2016, but somehow that part of the interview didn’t make it to the air.

Huh. How interesting,” she wrote. British tabloid The Sun later claimed that the TV show that Britney was referring to is The Jonathan Ross Show , with the publication reporting that Britney had told the host during the interview that her ninth studio album Glory was “her baby” because it was the first time she had creative freedom during her conservatorship.

Audience members claimed that Britney had said: “I have this conservatorship for years, and I felt like a lot of decisions were made for me, so I wanted this to be my baby, and I’ve been really strategic about it,” and added that host Jonathan Ross had responded by telling her that the world knew she was in a difficult position. The Sun went on to report that ITV held multiple meetings to decide what should be done with this footage, and after “a lot of back and forth,” they ultimately opted to “play ball” and remove all mention of the conservatorship from the interview. And now, over a year later, this report has been proven true, with ITV recently airing the previously unseen clip for the first ever time.

On Saturday, fashion writer Philip Logan took to X to share his shock at the network casually including the segment in a 30-minute “best bits” compilation episode of The Jonathan Ross Show , called The Jonathan Ross Show: Special Guests . Posting the clip to the social media site, Philip simply wrote: “OMG!! ITV just aired the clip of @britneyspears on the Jonathan Ross show taking about the conservatorship!!.” In the new footage, Jonathan is discussing Britney’s latest album with the star when he asks: “You are more involved in this musically, I understand, than previous works, so you’ve taken control.

You’re more in control of your music than before?” “Yes,” Britney replies, to which Jonathan inquires: “Why did it take you so long? Why did you wait until now to do it?” “Well, uhm, there’s a lot of reasons,” Britney says, appearing uncomfortable. “But I won’t get into the whole story.” “Well, we know a lot of the whole story, so we don’t have to go over the whole story,” Jonathan counters.

“Or, you know, what we think we know.” “It was, like, a thing since the conservatorship..

. I’m in a conservatorship, it’s the third year of me being under that,” Britney then explains. At this point, it’s worth clarifying that 2016 was actually the eighth year of Britney's conservatorship.

“And I felt like a lot of the things were planned for me to do, and, you know, being told what to do, and I was like: ‘For this one, I want to make it my baby, and I want to do it myself,’” she goes on. “And I was very strategic about the way I did it, and that’s why it means so much to me.” The audience responds with cheers for Britney, and Jonathan replies: “I suspect it will connect to people more when they know it’s coming so much from you.

” “And you seem in a really good place right now,” he adds. “Would that be a safe thing to say?” “Yes, sir,” Britney answers. “So you’re pretty happy? Pretty sorted?” Jonathan pushes, to which Britney laughs nervously before repeating: “Yes.

” “That’s good to know,” Jonathan tells her. “Because, I hope you know this, but you have millions of fans around the world. I know you know that, but I hope you know that they feel love to you, they feel protective of you, they want to see you thrive.

Do you draw strength from that? Does that thought help you, or is it sometimes too much?” “No, it’s so genuine,” Britney immediately replies. “Like, last night I performed, and the audience was..

. The ones in Vegas are so far back, and [last night] they were right there in front of [me], and it was so much more personal. And they weren’t drunk or high! It was so intimate, they were so present and so there with me, so it was really nice.
