Drivers could take in an epic summer advantage on a road trip of 15 stunning lakes across the UK.

Motorists can take in some of the UK’s most picturesque lakes on a 900-mile road trip this summer. Experts at Explore The UK posted a map of the epic adventure starting on the West Coast of Cornwall and Devon , passing through Cumbria and finishing in Northumberland. The trip takes in some iconic locations, including some of the UK’s most iconic destinations such as the Peak District, Lake Windermere and Rutland Water.

There are also hidden gems along the route, with experts warning it is the “perfect way” to experience the UK countryside. Explore The UK posted the map on social media earlier this week with full details on how motorists can take part. They wrote on Facebook : “Discover the most beautiful and diverse lakes across England—from coastal lagoons and moorland reservoirs to the iconic waters of the Lake District.

“This road trip is perfect for nature lovers, paddleboarders, walkers, and peaceful view seekers.” The journey begins at The Loe Pool, the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall. The 50-hectare site is thought to be home to eight species of bird and is just a short walk from the neighbouring village of Helpston.

Legend says that Loe Pool is even where Sir Bedivere may have cast King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur. From Loe, motorists take the short trip to Colliford Lake in Cornwall before reaching Slapton Ley in Devon and Wimbleball Lake in Somerset. After this comes the furthest stretch of the tour with a four-and-a-half-hour drive to Oakham for Rutland Water.

The Medieval Normanton Church on the edge of the lake is a must-see and a favourite among photographers, Next is a trip to Carsington Water in Derbyshire, Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District and then Malham Tarn in North Yorkshire. The UK’s largest lake comes next with Lake Windermere measuring a whopping 10.5 miles long.

This is followed by excursions to four more lakes in Cumbria before completing the journey at Kielder Water in Northumberland. In total, Explore The UK says the trip covers around 900 miles making it ideal for a short holiday. Explore The UK wrote: “This England Lakes Road Trip is a perfect way to experience the country’s varied landscapes, from southern coasts to northern peaks, through some of the most tranquil and scenic waters in the UK.
