Selena Gomez's new engagement ring has people talking and looking into the potential hidden meanings within the jewelry. The actress announced her engagement on Instagram to music producer Benny Blanco in a carousel of photos on Wednesday, December 11. The first picture is a close up of the engagement ring on Selena's finger which is marquise-cut ring with an oval diamond in the center and a gold band accompanied by closely together stones (called a pavé) around it.

Blake Asaad, Diamond expert and founder of GOODSTONE , told the Mirror all about the ring and what the structure of the rock says about the happy couple and of Selena. First, he agreed with the estimated $1 million figure that many experts have believed Selena's ring to cost. He also estimated the rock is 8-carats and that because of it's clarity and absence of imperfections, the ring might be graded VVS1 or in the D-F range.

Those two grades are some of the highest ratings for a diamond, meaning " the stone was likely very pricey." Hailey Bieber's response to Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's engagement as fans say she 'thanked God' Taylor Swift reveals the role she'll play in Selena Gomez's upcoming wedding with Benny Blanco Blake mentioned how the oval shape of the marquise-cut diamond has a deeper meaning. "The pointed ends of the marquise cut resemble an arrow or a flame, often interpreted as symbols of forward momentum and passion," he said.

"The elongated form of the stone can also represent growth." "Both of these meanings relate to Selena. In her personal life, she’s moving forward into a new chapter as she’s getting married.

In her professional life, she’s transitioning from music to acting, a choice she’s been very enthusiastic about, especially with the popularity of her hit show Only Murders In The Building. That’s why I think Benny’s choice of cut could be more than a nod to her hit song - it shows he truly understands the journey she’s on." Blake is referring to the Selena's 2015 single featuring rapper A$AP Rocky, Good for You, in which the crooner compares herself to a marquise diamond.

In the song, she sings, "I’m in my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous." Many fans thought the ring was a nod to that track. The GOODSTONE founder, which is a business that provides crafted wedding and engagement rings, talked about the meaning of the gold band and its color.

"Gold has a lot of symbolism behind it," Blake said. "It could symbolize that Selena’s won first place in Benny’s heart, of course, but I think it goes deeper than that. Gold’s value is everlasting, from ancient civilizations all the way until today.

I think that enduring, immortal quality is what Benny’s going for." Blake went on to talk about the juxtaposition of the band with it's precise ends and the daintiness of the pavé diamonds as well as the gold band. "She is bold and tenacious, yet soft and deeply caring—qualities Benny has highlighted with the ring’s design," he elaborated.

"Everything about this ring’s design proves that he gets her on a deep level - and I think it shows they’re meant to be." DAILY NEWSLETTER: Sign up here to get the latest news and updates from the Mirror US straight to your inbox with our FREE newsletter..
