ster-of-members-interests-dail-eireann_en.pdf Deputy Smith was on the money! They disgust me with their acting but they are far from the only ones who could act for Ireland. A few senior politicians who have been in power for the last decade have an awful habit of pretending they give a fup about the suffering of people when they could have helped them or could have done more work, in some cases any work to reform the system when they had and still have more power to do something to fix it than anyone else in the country.
Acting is not a new thing in the Dail but the H-Rs are exceptional in how they have an entire all encompassing act that they bring around with them. Speaking as someone who has to perform for a few hours a day, that sh1t is exhausting but it must be truly exhausting to have to act like that 365 days of the year 16 hours a day. They are not particularly laughable, the actions of the GOP senators in recent years; throwing all principle out the window to appease a proto-dictator and mob has led me to wonder who among the politicians I know would be first onto that bandwagon here.
Can't see how the locals vote for people so obviously fake, or I suppose we all know why, I could just never do that myself. Hillmanhunter1 said: Deputy Smith was on the money! Click to expand..
. How did you not know this. There isn't an angle on making money those cute Kerry Healy Rae's aren't up to.
Especially the state contracts. Their main job is to act the Gombeen. They are far from being Gombeens, that's to fool the Dublin elite and their own constitutents who actually know full well but are happy enough as they deliver for Kerry.
and remember they pull a huge vote between them...

.. maybe their voters are Healy rae men too.

They're some craic though. There's an entertainment part to politics we have to accept. drjimryan2 said: and remember they pull a huge vote between them.

.. It's a poor reflection on the good people of Kerry.
Although I'm very much aware that no constituency can lay claim to only sending honest, intelligent, hard-working public servants to Dail Eireann. (just reminded myself who my own local TDs are and nearly reached for the whiskey bottle) What are we really blaming them for, making money and hanging on to it? Instead of blowing it? Or dressing up? Fact is that TDs are deputies from their area, and the H-Rs represent all that is good and bad about kerry. I think how they make their money is somewhat germane - public roads contracts in the main. Does it sit well with me that TDs make millions out of public contracts? No. It does not.
I couldn't give a crap how they choose to dress. A working class outburst from a member of what was once a working class party. And it was very satisfying.
But the Kerry electorate won't care. HarshBuzz said: I think how they make their money is somewhat germane - public roads contracts in the main. // Click to expand.
.. Often the clincher in today's contracts is not that you're better, but that you've met some tiny little regulation that everyone else hasn't bothered to read about.

. Water off a duck's back to the pair of charlatans but a great line that will live long. They are our equivalent of Trump, conning gullible rubes into believing they are honest hard working warriors against "de elites", and like Trump peddling nostalgia and BS about an Irish way of life that is long gone (and good riddance to most of it too) Mercifully unlike America, there is no appeal for this crap at a national level, mention the Healy Raes anywhere outside Kerry and you get met with a combination of laughter and revulsion McTell said: Often the clincher in today's contracts is not that you're better, but that you've met some tiny little regulation that everyone else hasn't bothered to read about.

Connections of course have nothing to do with the awarding of such contracts. Everything is transparent and above board, and everyone agrees it's totally normal that companies operated by sitting TDs get awarded millions of business worth of public contracts within the constituency where they are the dominant political force. Now, where's that bridge I wanted to sell.

I was down in Killarney a couple years back and a big funeral was underway, and prominently outside the Cathedral was a H-R car, how did i know this, it was painted in huge writing on the side. There are many gombeen politicians in the country but they wouldn't be so crass as to bring an election car to a funeral. Here's a media story on this in 2017.
At that point Danny's firm had earned a mere €8.7m from the public purse, mostly awarded by, hmmmmm, Kerry County Council. I wonder what mafia organisation , family dominates said Council? Still, going to every funeral in the county and uttering the well-practiced spiel about 'dem lads up in Dublin' does seem to buy you a lot of forbearance with the suckers constituents back home.
.. If you read that article, it's not like they even bother to hide the ahem, blurring of the lines between the public interest and Healy Rea interest.
For of course, in their view, they are one and the same...
my own thoughts in italics. These guys have managed to create a perfect world for themselves where they can happily lobby for their own enrichment and dress it up as concern for their constituents. In the Dáil last February Danny Healy-Rae spoke during a debate on procurement legislation to call for the qualification criteria for State contracts be loosened to help local businesses bid on tenders.
Naturally, all that due process and scrutiny is a terrible constraint on honest firms owned by sitting TDs He outlined during the debate that he “was involved in a small way in a plant-hire business”, according to the Dáil record. Small in the way that Amazon is a small retailer? Between them, the two brothers have tabled 57 written parliamentary questions to the Minister of Transport petitioning for more investment in Kerry’s road infrastructure. Didn’t you realise what was going on before now? Further, the only reason those lads got into politics was to keep the contracts going to themselves. But shouting about the Dublin meeja gets the locals all jeed up. Classic diversion tactics.

Brilliant takedown. The Healy-Raes put on the "horny-handed son of the soil" act once to often, the "people who eat their dinner in the middle of the day". The caubeens should fool nobody.
