The sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale arrives on Hulu and Disney+ on April 8 in the USA with fans finally seeing how the dystopian drama comes to an end. The first three episodes will be dropped in one go for viewers to binge and immerse themselves back in the world of Gilead. British fans will have a slightly longer wait for the show to arrive but rest assured, The Handmaid’s Tale will be screened on Channel 4 and Prime Video.
However, it looks like viewers already seem to know how the show will wrap even before the premiere. Unsurprisingly, with The Handmaid’s Tale concluding, audiences have been turning their attention to author Margaret Atwood’s 2019 Booker Prize-winning sequel The Testaments. Many fans have already started commenting and theorising about the plot line of season six in relation to The Testaments.
One person posted: “‘I am TRYING to give you a way out!!!’ As someone who has read "The Testaments," I know exactly where that conversation is leading to.” A second wrote under the trailer on YouTube: “NOT READY FOR THE END.” “I hope we get to see Commander Judd as the final villain.
I’ve read The Testaments and he’s a complete monster,” wrote a third. Others took to Reddit to post about the ending: “June definitely isn't the hero of the story, she's just the protagonist and at best an antihero. “It's not a story in which she is some extraordinary individual that brings down a tyrannical government either.
” Another said: “Well The Testaments book (sequel) takes place like 10 years or so later, and they are adapting it into the next show. “So likely the story of Gilead will continue but the individual stories of the main characters of Handmaid's Tale will largely wrap up.” Someone else posted: “I really liked The Testaments, I liked getting Aunt Lydia's backstory and learning more about what was happening in Canada with the Pearl Girls.
” While Atwood’s follow-up novel to The Handmaid’s Tale does present fans of the universe with answers, there’s no guarantee the show will following the source material without divergences. Atwood previously explained how she wrote The Testaments in coordination with the producers of The Handmaid’s Tale and began penning the sequel not long after Donald Trump was first elected to the White House in 2016. She told Variety about writing The Testaments as work progressed on The Handmaid’s Tale: “I read the scripts; I make notes on them.
“I have influence but no actual power. But luckily we’re in accord most of the time.” The author explained about The Testaments, which takes place 15 years after The Handmaid’s Tale: “Although I could not continue with the story of Offred, I could continue with three other people concerned in these events and tell the story of the beginning of the end, because we know from The Handmaid’s Tale that Gilead vanishes.
” The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 premieres on Hulu & Hulu on Disney+ on April 8.
