Praise be, The Handmaid’s Tale has returned

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 Season six of The Handmaid’s Tale finally arrived today (April 8) on Hulu with viewers getting three episodes to binge. The 10-episode season will be the last outing for June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss) as she tries yet again to take down the tyrannical regime of Gilead. Episode one ended on a huge reveal after June was reunited with her mother Holly Maddox (Cherry Jones), who was revealed to be alive in the Alaskan Gilead refugee camp.

Up until now, it was unclear what had befallen Holly given her minimal appearances in the show. However, it appeared Holly’s role as a doctor had been vital and so she had survived. Many fans took to social media to share their thoughts about June and Holly’s reunion with one person posting on X (formerly Twitter): “OMG June's Mother is alive.

It was assumed she had been murdered by #Gilead #TheHandmaidsTale #spoileralert [sic].” Another commented: “No way!!!! No Way!!!!! It’s June..

...

..OMG!!!! 601 ending #TheHandmaidsTale [sic],” along with a GIF of someone in tears.

A third audience member echoed these sentiments, posting: “Omg the ending of the new episode had me tears #TheHandmaidsTale [sic]” with another GIF of a crying person. A fourth person wrote on the platform: “OH MY GOD HOLLY!!!!!!! #thehandmaidstale [sic],” with a crying GIF. Yet another fan wrote: “June finding her mom in Alaska #TheHandMaidsTale.

” While there was much jubilation at June and Holly’s reunion, there was also plenty of fan fury directed at Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) after she stoked up hatred among the Gilead refugees on the train to Alaska and nearly got both herself and June killed. Serena tried to form a friendship with June, saying they had both suffered at the hands of Gilead and were now on the same side. To make matters worse, Serena was pushing around June’s toddler baby Nichole after the exhausted freedom fighter fell asleep while battling a serious infection on her broken arm.

June woke up panicked and found Nichole and Serena, with the former wife telling her without a hint of irony how she wasn’t a “Disney villain” who was going snatch her baby away. To add fuel to the fire, after Serena’s true identity was uncovered, she started doubling down on her beliefs and minimising her role in the hellscape of Gilead. In the end, Serena was forced to jump off the train with baby Noah.

Viewers were left incandescent with rage at Serena as one wrote: “Idc what “soft sentimental” moment you give Serena, f*** that b****! I feel zero remorse for her. “They should have beat her a*** and June should have taken her baby so she knows what it’s like! #TheHandmaidsTale [sic].” A second said: “It’s Serena asking June some damn “what do you think I’m just gonna steal your daughter?” like this ain’t the whole plot of this series for me lmao #TheHandmaidsTale [sic].

” A third person wrote: “Serena better put that baby down because if I was on the train that b**** would get jumped until she stopped breathing. “She participated in genocide & literally created Gilead. She deserves the worst death imaginable #TheHandmaidsTale [sic].

” Someone else posted: ““Do you think im going to steal your daughter?” Well Serena past performance does indicate future behavior...

. #TheHandmaidsTale [sic].” Another fan added: “After all that Serena has done in this series I would be apprehensive as well to let her hold my kid.

#TheHandmaidsTale.” The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 airs on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Tuesdays in the USA.
