The dog-friendly Mediterranean south London food spot that’s great for hang-outs

I visited a Mediterranean restaurant in Richmond that’s dog-friendly and serves up some delicious cocktails – and I can’t wait to go back.

If you’re happening to be in Richmond and are on the hunt for a good dog-friendly eating spot, Megan’s should be one to add to your list. Located near Richmond’s Old Town Hall, just a 20-minute walk from Richmond Park, Megan’s is a popular spot serving up Mediterranean cuisine with a menu that changes seasonally. The restaurant is also laptop-friendly if you’re looking for a work spot during the day, and serves up a popular brunch menu, along with the option to have three courses for £20 if you want to visit between Sunday and Wednesday from 5pm.

We recently visited to try their newly-launched menu, which is a fusion of classic East Med dishes along with cosy and seasonal touches for the Autumn months, which also focuses on dishes that can be split between friends. We started off by ordering some drinks, their cocktail menu is very broad and features a range of classic and signature cocktails that have Mediterranean touches. We went with two from their frozen cocktail menu, which were the Mango & Passion Fruit Margarita and the Frosé made with rose, strawberry and elderflower.

Both of these were delicious and went down a treat after working up a little bit of a sweat on the walk there, but I can imagine these being amazing to have on a warm summer’s day. For we opted for some sharing plates including Feta & Spinach Parcels and Hot Honey Halloumi Fries, both of which had such great flavours and were definitely the perfect comfort food to share on an Autumnal evening. The Feta & Spinach Parcels were my favourite, with a delicious creamy sauce for dipping, and I can say I have thought about these since having them and have been craving them ever since.

For mains, Megan’s offers a mix of traditional Med dishes like their popular Open Kebabs and Shish Kebabs, with options ranging from meats to vegetarian options like oyster mushroom and halloumi. I went for the Chicken Shish Kebab, which came with a generous portion of flatbread, yoghurt, pickled cabbage and salad, and it was delicious. For desserts they serve up a range of classic and options from baklava to olive oil ice cream, along with classics like chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding.

We tried one of Megan’s most popular desserts, which was the half-baked cookie dough with Nutella, pistachios and ice cream, which is perfect for sharing and was so rich and decadent served with caramel ice cream, perfect if you fancy something sweet to share with friends. This place is the perfect spot to visit if you’re looking for a night out with friends and want to split some small plates to have with drinks, or want a full-on meal, especially if you have dogs. The staff all made such a fuss of my dog Rosie, and although she’s a guide dog and can go anywhere I’m sure she doesn’t object to visiting places that welcome dogs with treats.

Regardless of whether you're looking for brunch, lunch or an evening meal, this is a great spot to visit and somewhere I’ll be visiting again. Megan’s has several locations in south London including Battersea Power Station, Clapham Old Town, the Lordship in East Dulwich, and the Hamlet in Dulwich Village, as well as Richmond Old Town Hall, with the current menu running up until January..
