The Deadly Tradition of Celebratory Gunfire

Gunfire celebrations turn our streets into war zones.

Gunfire celebrations turn our streets into war zones. Recently, a heartbreaking incident occurred in Lyari, Karachi. Hayat Fatima Sikandar was struck by a stray bullet and was rushed to Civil Hospital, where she lost her life.

Just a week later, Azeela Ali met the same fate. These are not accidents; they are the results of reckless and preventable actions. According to Pakistan Penal Code Section 337-H(2), firing in the air is illegal, even for licensed gun owners, as it poses a serious risk to human life.

Yet, these laws are routinely ignored, leading to tragic consequences. Celebratory gunfire is not an act of bravery; it is a crime. Despite existing laws, weak enforcement allows this dangerous practice to continue.

I urge the government to strictly enforce a ban on celebratory gunfire immediately. If this negligence persists, many more innocent lives will be lost. SHAHQUE, Hub.
