A country pub has undergone a £230,000 refurbishment, which has included the installation of a new bar. The Black Dog , in Belmont, has still kept many classic features, however, including its magistrate’s chair and which now forms part of the seating area. Owned by the Manchester-based Joseph Holt brewery , the pub has also brought in a 'doggie roast dinner' for any four-legged customers.

The new interior (Image: Joseph Holt) "The Black Dog has a lovely cottage feel, but the dining room was quite a large area, and customers couldn`t order a drink in there as there was no bar. "So we`ve put a new bar in there and given what was the dining area a more casual feel.

"So essentially people can sit anywhere in the pub to either enjoy a drink or have something to eat- (as can their dogs!). (Image: Joseph Holt) "What`s more, people come in here because they love the view, so there are now patio windows as well as four Juliet balconies. "The whole pub has been refurbished and has a lovely light, open feel to it all.

” Respecting its history as a courthouse, the magistrate`s bench has now been refitted with an original pair of arms at the end of the run to create a separate chair. (Image: Joseph Holt) Marc Broady, area manager for Joseph Holt said the refurbishments had been enthusiastically received by customers at the pub. He added: “Many people who are local to the area and beyond have told us how much they appreciate our investment in the community.

"At a time when hospitality is going through a challenging time, Joseph Holt remains determined to continue investing in pubs and so helping the communities where they are located.” Meanwhile hungry customers and their pet pooches can now enjoy dining on the Black Dog`s delicious menu. Ms Brooks explained: “The Black Dog has long been a favourite for dog walkers and lovers of the countryside as well as those who love a hearty and delicious pub menu.

Now, thanks to the refurbishment, there is even more space inside. "And our Doggie Sunday Dinner menu means our customers can now enjoy their dinner without feeling guilty that their pets are missing out.”.
