New analysis has revealed the most affordable second-hand used cars on the market with some top brands making the top 10.

Motoring experts have revealed the “cheapest” second-hand used cars on the market with iconic models from BMW , Land Rover and Mini Cooper making the top 10. Vehicles from Dacia, Skoda and even Porsche made it into the list. Autocar said it hoped its new list showed that used cars “represent real value for money when bought well.

” Autocar said: "As prices rise and belts are tightened, our search for the best value used cars intensifies." The Ford Puma topped the list and Autocar stressed it was “one of the best value used cars” on the market. The expert said the Puma had strong efficiency and rewarding drive across all specifications.

The model was praised for its impressive ride quality and broad choice of engines and trims. It's also a steal financially with Autocar warning that a determined haggler could get up to 12% off when striking a deal. Autocar listed the BMW 3 Series next with motorists likely to secure a facelifted 318i saloon model for under £5,000.

The motoring experts said that the “refined upmarket interior” was a major selling point for the 3 Series while the model was also big enough for the whole family. The plucky Mazda MX-5 comes next with its precise steering, agile chassis and reliability among the biggest selling points. Autocar placed the Mini Cooper S fourth on the list with the iconic British brand among the top picks.

The model was celebrated for its strong performance, nimble ride, and handling, with the second-generation BMW Mini the standout pick. However, experts warned motorists had to be careful as some high-spec models likely to be a lot more expensive. The Land Rover Discovery was next with specialists keen to show off its spacious cabin and its off-road credentials.

Autocar explained : “As refined off-road as it is off it, the Land Rover Discovery of 2004-2010 offers a huge amount of space for the money. “While its iffy reliability will deter many, the Discovery is the sort of family hauler we all dream of. It's big, spacious, practical and has just enough premium feel to off-set its utilitarian vibe.

” The Dacia Jogger came next, followed by the Skoda Superb Estate and a Porsche Cayenne. Although the Porsche was praised for having excellent performance, great handling and a premium cabin, experts warned running costs can be high.
