Fans of ITV's hit quiz show The Chase were stumped when one contestant made a decision some viewers labelled 'embarrassing'. During Tuesday's episode (April 1) of The Chase , host Bradley Walsh introduced Binesh, Tash, Omar, and Annabelle to the challenge. But they faced a stern test up against 'The Governess', Anne Hegerty.
The Chaser was on form, as she quickly knocked out Binesh, the day's first player. However, confusion set in when Tash took her turn. The contestant, from Liverpool, disclosed to Bradley that she intended to use her winnings as a deposit for a new home.
But she made an unexpected choice moments later that left fans baffled. Before her cash builder round, Tash told Bradley: "Me and my partner, we are saving up for a house deposit so anything I win would go towards that." But then she opted for the lower amount once banking £3,000, in order to improve her chances of reaching the Final Chase.
Having been offered the higher amount of £33,000 by The Governess, she spurned this chance and the £3,000. Instead, Tash chose to take £300 and an easier round against the Chaser, reports the Express . Dismayed fans promptly expressed their bemusement on X, previously Twitter , with comments highlighting the illogical strategy.
One tweet read: "£300? Won't get you a weekend at Centre Parcs NOT during a half term let alone a house deposit! #thechase." This sentiment was echoed by others, with another user mocking her: "Saving for a deposit for a house 'I'll take £300 please'.#TheChase.
" Another quipped about the insufficiency of £300 for even covering solicitor fees. They said: "Wants a house deposit so takes the £300 offer. Won't even come close to covering the solicitors fees that.
#TheChase." One disgruntled viewer vented: "Brad choose your contestants more wisely mate, just turned over, sick of people wasting a once in a lifetime opportunity trying to win £300 quid ffs #TheChase." Tash's widely-mocked decision didn't pay off, either.
Moments later, she was beaten by Anne and forced to exit the programme with nothing to show for it. Another viewer added their thoughts, saying: "#thechase £300 omg and still goes out this program is past its best I think she will have to hide in embarrassment." A sixth said: "Anyone who takes the low offer of £300 on #Thechase deserves to go out.
" The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm..
