Photo Credit: Amazon Prime VideoWhile Antony Starr may have found his footing in Tinseltown as the Homelander in The Boys, the New Zealand actor could’ve followed a completely different career path if not for his botched James Bond audition. His age-old attempt to land the role of 007 recently went viral amid Amazon MGM’s ongoing search to find a successor to Daniel Craig for the part. As such, Starr has come out to reflect on his failed audition of the past, going as far as to call it one of the worst takes on the character ever.
The Boys’ Antony Star reflects on his failed James Bond auditionIn a recent discussion, Anthony Starr reflected on his 2005 audition for the role of the most renowned covert operative in cinema. While the Homelander star did not have any kind words for his robotic portrayal of James Bond back then, he admitted that everyone has to have a beginning point. While speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Starr noted, “My metaphor for that was like throwing a baitless hook into a very large pond, knowing you’re not gonna catch the fish.
I’ve seen it. That was when Daniel Craig was getting it.” He further added, “They were just dragnetting the globe, and I was just one of the little minnows somewhere in there that got caught in the net.
It was a bit surreal.” Starr continued, “It came out of the blue, and I sort of went in and did that reading. It’s not very good, but it’s reflective of where I was at.
”Although Starr, who has become a household name thanks to his role as the Homelander in The Boys series, bluntly criticized his James Bond audition, he seems to have gotten over the failed attempt. “It doesn’t bother me really. I mean we all start somewhere so it is what it is.
It is one of the worst readings of ‘Bond. James Bond’ you’ll ever see,” he said. When asked about whether he would consider giving the part a second chance, Starr remarked that his experience with the Banshee series has taught him “what those fight scenes take.
” As such, he subtly turned the chance down, stating, “I know the deal a little bit, and it’s a lot. It’s a drag. That’s a young man’s game.
A younger man than I.”Originally reported by Apoorv Rastogi on SuperHeroHype. The post The Boys Actor Says James Bond Audition Was ‘Not Very Good’ appeared first on ComingSoon.
