The beautiful city 3 hours from London where a pint is half as much as in UK

It's a perfect option for a cheap city break if you have a free weekend, and even booking flights won't break the bank

Europe is a treasure trove of budget-friendly escapes, with Warsaw being one of them. Brits being Brits, we love a cheap pint - and Warsaw can accommodate that. It's not just the drinks that are wallet-friendly; accommodation in Warsaw is also incredibly affordable, with some private flats going for as little as £20 per night.

And let's not forget about the inexpensive and efficient metro system, or the taxis that charge only 60p per kilometre. If Warsaw isn't on your travel bucket list for 2025, it might be time to rethink your summer holiday plans. The Old Town is often the main attraction for visitors to Warsaw, although it's worth noting that it's not exactly 'old'.

More than 85 percent of Warsaw's historic centre was destroyed by the Nazis in August 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. However, after World War 2, a five-year reconstruction plan was put into action. Remarkably, the city's residents managed to painstakingly recreate the city's ancient wonders brick by brick, including its churches, palaces, and marketplace, reports the Express .

This feat is arguably one of the most impressive near-total reconstructions of a historical period spanning 700 years from the 13th to 20th centuries. The Old Town isn't the only spot for history enthusiasts, but it's a cracking starting point for a city break. Wondering what to pack? Generally, Poland's weather is akin to the UK's, albeit with more extreme temperatures at both ends of the scale.

Summer trips promise balmy evenings where shorts and t-shirts will do you just fine all day, but be sure to bundle up in winter as snow is likely. Year-round averages range from chilly lows of -5C in January (and highs of 1C), to pleasant highs of 22C and 24C in June and July respectively (with lows of 11C and 13C), with everything else in between throughout the year. A quick search on Skyscanner , a flight aggregator, reveals direct flights from the UK for as little as £37.

Budgetyourtrip estimates you'll need around £73 (zł258) per day, including £13 (zł65) for grub, £5 (zł24) for local transport, and £55 (zł279) for posher hotels. Of course, you can cut corners on certain things and make your trip much cheaper. Alternatively, you can splash out and indulge in some gourmet dining - easy peasy given there are nearly 20 Michelin-star restaurants in the city.

Holidaymakers will be chuffed to learn that a pint of beer in Warsaw is almost half the price of a pint back in the UK. While you'd typically fork out around £5 for a jar of the amber liquid back in Blighty, in Warsaw, it'll only cost you a mere £2.70.

As is often the case, the further you venture from the town centre, the less you'll pay for your pint. Warsaw is famed for its open spaces, spots that locals love to frequent when the sun's shining. Lazienki Palace and Park or Saxon Garden are ideal for basking in the sunshine.

The city's nightlife also ranks among Europe's finest, offering a variety of experiences, from boogying until dawn to intimate chats by candlelight in library-esque bars. See accommodation options on Booking.com and Hotels.
