Sony has confirmed the cast of its four Beatles movies directed by Sam Mendes, and the films will release in a truly daring fashion in April 2028. Mendes revealed at CinemaCon for the first time that Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn is George Harrison, Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson is John Lennon. All four names had previously been reported or rumored, but this is the first time Sony has officially confirmed the names.
Ringo Starr however had confirmed Keoghan would be portraying him. More from IndieWire All four cast members took the stage at CinemaCon to take the Beatles bow (check out the cast photo of them below), and Mendes and Sony chief Tom Rothman revealed that all four films, each told from a different band members’ perspective, will release in theaters the same month, in April 2028. Mendes called it the first “bingeable” moviegoing experience.
The four stars each said a line quoted from a Beatles classic, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band:” “It’s wonderful to be here, It’s certainly a thrill, You’re such a lovely audience, We’d like to take you home with us.” Mendes said that the film would be shot over the course of an entire year of principal photography to complete all four films.
He added that there’s a specific order in which he suggests that the films be watched, but did not say in which order. He said that though you may know the Beatles story, easily the most-documented and one of the most influential bands ever, he said “I can assure you there’s still plenty of stuff left to explore.” “We are going to dominate the culture that month,” Rothman added of the truly ambitious release strategy with all four films arriving the same month.
Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire are producing the film, which is a Neal Street production in association with Apple Corps for Sony Pictures.
