Mike's Chill in Tilton Why does Mike's Chill in Tilton close in September when it's still large chocolate dipped ice cream cone eating weather? This reader's specific regular order at Mike's Chill made me chuckle. We all have our favorite ice cream treats! Owner Vicki Miethe said "During the season we usually have 17-18 employees. By August, we lost five to go to college.



By first of September, we had 10 employees left, of which half did sports. We have always closed the middle of September. Thank you for asking.

" She adds too that they usually open in the middle of March, but this year they opened April 1 due to health reasons. Volunteers at the Danville Noon Kiwanis Pancake Day in Danville last month. According to the Danville Noon Kiwanis, volunteers served a whopping 5,600 pancakes to about 3,000 people, and the annual event this year raised around $20,000.

I ended up mixing her up, however, with owner Heather Pierce. Runyan has bartended for Pierce for years, and said it's a common mix-up. Runyan too had the answers from Pierce.

Pierce has owned the bar for 14 years. She originally only had a 10-year plan when she bought it. Her adult son isn't interested in taking it over.

Her daughter is very active with school and extracurriculars. Pierce has bartended for 20+ years and is ready for something new. Pierce and her husband have been contemplating selling for the past year and it was just time to move on it.

Think Pink For A Cause's menu. What is Think Pink For A Cause? Mimi's Kitchen and Catering's Niki Lesko says "Think Pink For A Cause" is in memory of her grandma, Elizabeth Lesko who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010. The event will be on Oct.

The music group Love Signs will be playing. Dr. Jomel Labayog from the OSF HealthCare Cancer Center will be a keynote speaker as well as Tonya Hill, an honorary survivor.

Hill is five years cancer free. The event is a dinner party and a night of conversation and heartfelt stories of survivors and the loss of loved ones. Georgetown and Westville fair queens and Peer Court volunteers will be helping with checking guests in and seating.

Lesko has a $10,000 goal. How long will repairs on Winter Avenue, from Bowman Avenue to North Michigan Avenue take? Those who live in that area or use that roadway as a bypass have had to find an alternative route starting this week. According to the Vermilion County Highway Department and Engineer Adrian Greenwell, that section of Winter Avenue closed for repairs at the start of the week.

They are doing shoulder work, patching, bituminous slope correction, seal coat and pavement marking. According to Greenwell, it's a Newell Township project with a completion date of Oct. 18.

Has Fastenal sent donations from the public to North Carolina hurricane victims? Vici Pate, with Fastenal customer support supply chain, said, "Donations have been steady. We sent our first pallet out Friday morning. Each day we have had people come in who have either purchased large amounts of items, collected items from their own community or have just cleaned out their own house and brought those items in.

It's been inspiring. We'll keep collecting as long as people keep bringing things in.".
