The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has announced its 117th Bethlehem Bach Festival, titled, “A Reimagined Celebration of Music, Tradition, and Bach.”The four-day celebration of Bach features beloved traditions, acclaimed performers, and fresh new programming. This year the festival takes on a streamlined format, transforming the event into one immersive, long weekend filled with the music, scholarship, and community that define the Bethlehem Bach Festival.
Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Christopher Jackson shared in a press release, “By melding our Festival events into one seamless experience. We’re heightening the sense of energy, intimacy, and shared experience that has always made this Festival so meaningful.
”Vocal soloists soprano Sherezade Panthaki, mezzo-soprano Meg Bragle, tenor Dann Coakwell, and bass-baritone Jonathan Woody will perform in Bach’s “Mass in B Minor,” “Wer mich liebet, der wird mein Wort halten,” BWV 74, and in works by Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Mozart, and Handel. They are joined by the Bach Choir, Festival Artist-in-Residence Rachell Ellen Wong, and the Bach Festival Orchestra.Also programmed is the “Cantata in Context” series with Bach scholar Dr.
Daniel R. Melamed, featuring a guided exploration and multiple performances of “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme,” BWV 140. Performances by Chorale Sings and the Bel Canto Youth Chorus are also scheduled.
