After Donald Trump won the 2024 the presidential election, the world’s richest got even richer. On Wednesday, the 10 wealthiest people on the planet gained a whopping $63.5 billion, a one-day record, Bloomberg reported .
The list is led by Elon Musk , a vocal Trump supporter, whose net worth jumped 10.1 percent to $290.3 billion.
Among the top 10, just one person is based outside the United States—LVMH founder Bernard Arnault, whose fortune actually dipped slightly on Wednesday, falling 1.6 percent to $173.2 billion.
“US financial assets, especially equities and the US dollar, should experience a boost,” Samy Chaar and Luca Bindelli of the Lombard Odier Group wrote to their clients, according to Bloomberg. The wealth gains are in large part due to the strong performance of stocks following the election announcement, Bloomberg noted. The S&P 500 rose 2.
5 percent—the most post-election in history—while the U.S. dollar also strengthened.
Musk’s Tesla saw shares jump 15 percent, meanwhile. These increases are due to the expectation that Trump will favor lower taxes and less regulation upon his return to the White House. Elsewhere in the top 10, Larry Ellison and Warren Buffett both saw their fortunes surge by 5.
4 percent, to $193.5 billion and $147.8 billion, respectively.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin gained 3.6 percent, bumping them to $158.3 billion and $149.
1 billion, respectively. Jeff Bezos saw his net worth rise by 3.2 percent, to $228.
3 billion. And Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates added a more modest 2 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively.
Ballmer is now worth $145.9 billion, and Gates is worth $159.5 billion.
Outside of the crème de la crème when it comes to wealth, crypto billionaires saw impressive gains following the election, Bloomberg wrote. Brian Armstrong, the cofounder and CEO of Coinbase, gained an eye-popping 30 percent, bringing his net worth to $11 billion. And Changpeng Zhao , the embattled founder of Binance, added $12.
1 billion to his fortune, bringing it to a total of $52.7 billion. Right before the election, a survey showed that Americans thought wealth would rise whether Trump or Kamala Harris won the race.
While it will be a while before we see how a new president contributes to U.S. wealth overall, it’s already clear that the world’s wealthiest are benefitting from Trump’s return to the presidency—at least in the short term.
