Thanksgiving weekend features annual livestock show at Northeast

There was more than turkey, football, shopping and family togetherness over the Thanksgiving holiday. Exhibitors from three states took part in the 39th annual Northeast Community College Classic livestock show. Michael Roeber, Northeast agriculture/livestock judging instructor and event organizer, said exhibitors from Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa took part in the two-day cattle show at the Chuck M.

Pohlman Agriculture Complex in Norfolk. The event included a market show and a breeding show, along with showmanship. The show is hosted by the Northeast livestock judging team as a fundraiser for the team.



A total of 115 head were exhibited in the market show. The judge for the market portion of the show was Miles Stagemeyer of Page. The following champions were shown: Champion market heifer: Eli Nemintz, Schleswig, Iowa; reserve champion market heifer: Troy Lindquist, Gretna.

Champion Charolais steer: Kolton Rasmussen, Albion; reserve champion Charolais steer: Troy Lindquist, Gretna. Champion Chianina steer: Dayton Billiter, Loomis; reserve champion Chianina steer: Rylee Vohs, Moville, Iowa. Champion Hereford steer: Wyatt Stemick, Pierce; reserve champion Hereford steer: Cooper Victor, Emerson.

Champion Limousin steer: Mason Betts, Wiota, Iowa. Champion Maine Anjou steer: Kollin Rasmussen, Albion; reserve champion Maine Anjou steer: Jase Ritter, Beemer. Champion shorthorn steer: Mason Prothman, Dwight; reserve champion shorthorn steer: Paisley White, Springfield.

Junior showmanship Champion: Bailey Prinz, Clarkson; reserve champion: Ethan Benes, Juniata. Intermediate showmanship Champion: Jase Prinz, Clarkson; reserve champion: Trapper Wilcox, Tilden.

Senior showmanship Champion: Nathan Griess, Aurora; reserve champion: Troy Lindquist, Gretna. Nine peewees participated in showmanship Breeding show A total of 157 breeding heifers were exhibited at the show. The exhibitors came from Nebraska and Iowa.

Judges for the show were Jentry Squires from Manhattan, Kansas, and Nick Deppe from Ames, Iowa.
