Warm temperatures early Monday afternoon quickly dropped across the Killeen area as brisk north winds blew in after noon, dropping the temperature to the mid-60s, with a low overnight of 41 expected. According to the National Weather Service-Fort Worth the Killeen-Fort Cavazos area should expect much colder overnight temperatures as winds subside after midnight. The roller-coaster forecast calls for a quick warm-up Wednesday, with another strong cold front arriving Wednesday night.
Much cooler temperatures are expected on Thanksgiving Day and some locations in Central Texas may see the first freeze of the season Thursday into Friday morning. On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to top out near 67 during the day with north winds becoming calmer. Overnight, clear skies will make way for a low temperature around 54 as winds from the southeast at 5-10 mph pick up after midnight, gusting to 20-25 mph at times.
The area will “roller coaster” again Wednesday as high temperatures in the area are expected to be near 85 with strong southwest winds gusting to 25 mph. But, as clouds roll in after midnight, winds will shift again, becoming northerly at 25 mph. The overnight low is expected to be around 48 with gusty winds continuing.
On Thanksgiving, the high temperature is expected to be near 60 as the day begins. But, NWS expects the strong north winds to drop temperatures throughout the day, with a low temperature before sunrise Friday to be in the 30s. Many areas may see freezing temperatures; however, once the sun comes up Friday, temperatures will start to climb.
The high temperature for Friday should be near 58 as north winds calm down, becoming easterly in the afternoon. Friday night should be mostly cloudy with a low temperature around 40. Saturday should warm to a high temperature near 66 under partly sunny skies as overnight temperatures drop to around 40.
