Thane Traffic News: The Ghodbunder Road in Thane will be closed for heavy vehicles like trucks and buses for over four days from Saturday to Wednesday. The exact closure is announced for 100 hours as the Public Works Department (PWD) is undertaking repairs of the road at Gaimukh ghat, the Mid-Day reported. However, during the closure, the department has provided an exception to some heavy vehicles employed in emergency services.
Meanwhile, light vehicles like cars and jeeps will also face a hurdle when commuting from the area. The mega block-prompted vehicular diversion will result in congestion on Ghodbunder Road, Mumbai-Ahmedabad Road, and across Thane city in general. Diversions for light vehicles As per the Thane Traffic Division notice, during roadwork at Gaimukh Ghat, the light vehicles on the Ghodbunder-Thane carriageway, going towards Thane from the Kajupada side will be diverted.
The commuters will have to take the cut near the Indian petrol pump, drive on the wrong side of the Thane-Varasave carriageway and proceed via the cut in front of Nirantar Centre towards Gaimukh and onwards towards their destination. Meanwhile, the vehicles coming from the Palghar-Virar direction will not be allowed to enter Varasave via Shirsat Phata. Instead, they will have to take the Shirsat Phata-Parol-Akoli (Ganeshpuri)-Ambadi route to reach their destination.

They must take the Chinchoti route via Kaman, Kharbao, Anjur Phata, and Bhiwandi to reach their destination. Apart from that, the entry from the Western Express Highway (from the Mumbai and Kashimira side) towards Ghodbunder Road will remain closed.
The commuters must continue straight via the Versova bridge onto the Gujarat National Highway. They must then proceed via either the Shirsat Phata-Parol-Akoli (Ganeshpuri)-Ambadi route or via Chinchoti, Kaman, Kharbao, Anjur Phata, and Bhiwandi. Alternate routes for heavy vehicles Heavy vehicles heading towards Ghodbunder Road from Mumbai and Thane must proceed via Y Junction directly to Nashik Road, and then via the Kharegaon toll naka, Mankoli and Anjur Phata to their destination.
"All heavy vehicles coming from Mumbra and Kalwa towards Ghodbunder Road are prohibited from entering at Kharegaon toll naka. They must, instead, travel under the Kharegaon Khadi bridge and then take the toll naka-Mankoli-Anjur Phata route to reach their destination," the Traffic Division notice reads. Heavy vehicles coming from Nashik are prohibited from entering at Mankoli Naka.
They must proceed under the Manhole bridge, take a right turn, and travel via Anjur Phata. Similarly, heavy vehicles from Gujarat, Mumbai, Virar and Vasai heading towards Ghodbunder Road must proceed via Chinchoti Naka instead of venturing near the Fountain hotel.
