The first phase of the project - which includes a series of overnight road closures on the approach to the roundabout - was initially expected to start on Monday (March 10) . Transport for London (TfL) has since confirmed that the closures will now start on Saturday (March 15), although works have already started. The TfL website details that the first road to shut will be part of the A127 Southend Arterial Road westbound, from the Ardleigh Green Road/Squirrels Heath Road junction to Gallows Corner roundabout, between 9pm on Saturday and 5am on Sunday.
This will be followed by the closure of the A12 Eastern Avenue westbound, from Gallows Corner to Heath Drive, between 9pm on Sunday (March 16) and 5am on Monday (March 17). The closures are for the Gallows Corner flyover works (Image: TfL) There will be two more overnight closures of sections of the A127 and A12, but further details will be posted on TfL's travel advice page when the information is available. Drivers should expect "traffic queues and long delays", TfL said, with this lasting until mid-June. A full closure of Gallows Corner will then follow from June until September. The closures are for the strengthening and refurbishment of the flyover, which was initially built in the 1970s as a temporary structure.
This will ensure the long-term safety of the structure and allow for the removal of current speed and weight restrictions, TfL said..
