Surat: A 55-year-old textile trader died by suicide after slipping into depression because he had lost his vision. Kailash Jivnani hanged himself in his bedroom in the posh Pal area on Saturday evening. Jivnani was being treated for his vision-related issues for two months.
Pal police registered an accidental death and started an investigation. Jivnani lived with his two sons and wife at Casa King society in Pal. He owned two textile shops, at the NTM market and Kuberji World market.
For the last two months, his vision had started deteriorating. On Saturday, at about 8pm, he locked himself into his bedroom when his wife went downstairs and hanged himself with a dupatta. As his son realized that Jivnani had locked himself in, he entered the room from a window with help from his friends and society members.
He took his father to a nearby private hospital but the doctors there declared him dead. "Due to vision loss, the victim had gone into depression. He would often tell his family members that he did not want to live.
His family members were working hard on his treatment and would try to be with him. We registered an accidental death," an officer of Pal police said..
