US electric carmaker giant Tesla is believed to have started talks yet again scouting for a showroom in Delhi-NCR, people familiar with the development told CNBC-TV18 on December 10. Sources claim that Tesla is in talks with several real estate companies, including realty major DLF, and retailers. The latest attempt comes after Tesla had earlier initiated similar talks with retail and real estate giants in India but could not materialize a deal.
CNBC-TV18 has reached out to DLF for comments on the development and is awaiting a response. Tesla, however, could not be reached for a comment. Sources at DLF said that the Elon Musk led-US auto giant is in talks with several companies and not just DLF and that this is a routine process that the sales division of real estate players carries out.
Tesla has been keen on entering the Indian market for a while now as it sees the country among emerging markets that could drive its vehicle sales in the future. Earlier this year, Tesla chief Elon Musk had also planned an India visit where he was understood to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the plan was later cancelled. DLF shares traded more than a percent higher at ₹880 on NSE at 12:30 pm.
