Tesco has issued a stark warning about parking regulations outside its stores, cautioning that customers could face fines if they do not adhere to them. A shopper contacted the retailer about an issue, sending a photo of a blue badge parking notice they had spotted. The sign with a blue backdrop and the universally recognised disabled symbol stated: "Blue Badge holders only.
These bays are reserved for those with a Blue Badge." A blue badge is issued as a permit that must be displayed within a vehicle parked in a designated disabled space, as proof of the holder's eligibility due to a qualifying condition, reports the Express . The customer questioned, "I'm wondering if this sign actually requires people to display their Blue Badge? So are their fines for non-display of a badge actually valid/legal?" A spokesperson said: "I can advise that it is the driver's responsibility to ensure that their badge is both valid and clearly on display before leaving their vehicle parked in these spaces." The company distinctly cautioned that "fines will be issues for not displaying this badge". This discussion follows other recent critiques targeted at Tesco concerning changes to its parking policies, including the stipulation that at certain locations, parking is limited to 30 minutes between midnight and 6am.
Some customers have expressed their frustration over the new time restriction, arguing that it doesn't provide them with sufficient time to complete their shopping. One shopper said: "I know to a lot of people this probably seems petty and not a big deal, but to anyone who either has kids or works hours and has to shop in the evening, or for anyone neurodivergent it's absolutely not okay." A second said: "I also can only do the shopping on an evening.
Similarly, it's two hours to myself once a week. This is a really inconsiderate thing to do." A third customer mentioned they were considering changing stores due to the policy.
They said: "We used to spend £110 a week at Tesco for husband and I, costs £65 a week at Aldi. Fresher veg, fruit, salad and the British steaks are excellent. Vote with your feet people.
