Works are ongoing to two council owned units on Abbey Street

Terms are 'to be agreed' on a new Nuneaton town centre restaurant, the borough council has confirmed. CoventryLive reported that works are ongoing to two council owned units on Abbey Street - what was John Christopher Hair and the former home of Cartridge World, which has since relocated. These works are to turn the two buildings, which form part of the ground floor of what was the old Co-op Arcade, into one giant unit.

Last month the borough council said it had already had interest shown for it to be used as a restaurant. But at a full council meeting, councillor Michele Kondakor questioned if this was the case or if it was 'another speculative' development. She asked the council to confirm if an agreement had been secured especially as the planned new Food Hall is just yards away.

In response to the question at a full council meeting at the Town Hall, Cllr Nicola King, cabinet member for business and regeneration, said: "These units on Abbey Street were identified as being a gateway units to the new development (Grayson Place) adding to the food and beverage offer that is going to be provided.

"There has been significant local and national interest in both the units provided by the new development. In the units on Abbey Street, we can advise that we are confident in moving to heads of term on the units by the end of April, pending the necessary due diligence. "At this present moment in time, there is nothing secured at this moment.
