CHENNAI: Although Ilayaraja is described as music maestro, he has always been surrounded by controversies. The latest controversy is related to his visit at the Srivilliputhur Andaal Temple in Tamil Nadu. The temple authorities and devotees stopped the musician when he tried to enter the arthamandapam in front of the sreekovil.
The authorities stopped Ilayaraja from entering the arthamandapam, alleging that it was a violation of tradition. The priests then honored Ilayaraja with a garland when he prayed outside the arthamandapam. He was also given a reception by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department.
When the incident came to light, reactions against the action are becoming active on social media. The main allegation is that Ilayaraja was insulted through caste discrimination. However, another section is asking that the priests honored him outside the shrine.
