By Maya Shavit Nothing beats sipping on a refreshing local beer in Massachusetts whether you’re soaking up the sun or staying cozy inside with a craft brew. With one of the best new breweries in America and over 200 across the state , Massachusetts is a hotspot for serving up craft beer. The Bay State’s love of beer is nothing new.
Since the Arbella sailed into Salem Harbor in 1630, there has been beer on the shores of New England. “The American Revolution was built in taverns and made possible by getting loose with beer or alcohol,” public historian and colonial beer tour guide Brooke Barbier recently told Boston.com.
“The idea of supporting a local brewery and drinking close to home is not a new concept.” While Boston Harbor is most known for its tea dump, colonists were encouraged to create their own alcoholic beverages instead of delighting in British goods. Despite differences in flavor and temperature, the beer and drinking culture then is not so different to the culture now.
While there have been some notable industry-wide shifts , people continue to seek out craft breweries that offer an authentic on-premise drinking experience.
