: Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Sunday that electric vehicles (EVs) in Telangana will now be exempt from registration fees. This initiative, effective from Monday, aims to make EVs more financially attractive, with motorists potentially saving around Rs 1 lakh each year through this scheme. The minister also revealed plans to introduce electric buses in the twin cities, emphasising the state's commitment to reducing pollution.
"We don't want Hyderabad to turn into another Delhi in terms of pollution," Ponnam stated, urging citizens to adopt electric vehicles. The policy will remain in force until December 31, 2026. The government issued a GO 41 to this effect.
