The Telangana Legislative Assembly took a bold stance on Thursday, adopting a resolution that challenges the notion of using population as the sole metric for delimiting Lok Sabha constituencies. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who introduced the resolution, expressed concerns that if delimitation is conducted solely on a population basis, the representation of southern states in Lok Sabha could drop from 24 percent to 19 percent. The resolution emphasizes that states, which have implemented population control measures promoted by the Centre, should not be penalized through decreased representation.
