People showed reluctance to share information about their assets with surveyors for the ongoing household survey in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. They feared that the authorities would withdraw their ration card and pension benefits based on the assets of their families after the completion of the survey. The enumerators did not receive responses for all 75 questions in the questionnaire.
Even though there was no hesitation to share information about family members, caste, and debts, there was a marked reluctance when it came to sharing information about assets like agricultural lands, buildings, and vehicles. Speaking to , an enumerator said that it took at least 45 minutes to complete the survey for each household. “We are unable to do 10 houses per day,” he said.
People are cooperating with the survey teams, but they are hesitating to share information about assets and Aadhaar cards, he explained. Meanwhile, officials wrote to the state government seeking more enumerators for the survey. Merely 36 per cent of the household survey has been completed in Kamareddy district.
Out of 3.03 lakh households in the district, the survey teams have so far visited 1.09 lakh households.
