Ted Lasso fans have been left delighted at the announcement of the show's renewal for a fourth season, but some detractors have declared the show ended on a "perfect" note previously

Fans of the hit television show Ted Lasso are divided on whether the show needs a fourth season. The Jason Sudeikis-led comedy has been confirmed for a fourth season, though fans have since called the ending to the third season "perfect". Others were dismissive of the most recent series' finale, while others fear the show may get worse from here.

Rumours of a fourth season had circulated ever since the end of the third, and now Apple TV + has confirmed the show will go ahead with a fresh cast – with Sudeikis set to reprise his role as the titular character. Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, confirmed the decision to renew Ted Lasso earlier this week. He said: "Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief.

Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show." Apple TV+ has yet to confirm a release date, but it is expected Season Four will premiere around 2026 or 2027. But while Season Three of the show was tipped as Apple TV+'s most watched, some were left horrified by the decision to renew the programme.

One user took to X and expressed their outrage at the show receiving another season, writing: "TERRIBLE idea." Another joked: "Then it will be three too many." A third wrote: "As if the last 24 hours couldn't get any worse.

" Others were thrilled to see Ted Lasso making a return to television. One wrote: "The only piece of good news I've seen on this app in 54 days." Another added: "This makes me so happy today, I may have teared up a bit.

" While some say the ending was a delightful experience, others suggested they would be open to seeing more from the Ted Lasso team. They wrote: "Ted Lasso is the last show that I remember being so pleased with how it ended. But also I love that we're getting more because this show made me feel so warm and joyful inside.

" Others hoped for supporting cast confirmations after Sudeikis was confirmed to be returning to the show. Some cited characters including journalist Trent Crimm and assistant coach to Ted Lasso, Coach Beard, as hopeful returns. One wrote: "Don't even bother if Beard ain't coming back.

" Another added: "I only care if Trent Crimm is returning." Others were also worried for what it could mean for the overall quality of the show, and suggested a fourth season could be its "jumping the shark" moment. They wrote: "Season Three ended perfectly.

I really hope this isn’t their 'jump the shark' moment. With that, I am excited for this." The "jumping the shark" moment is an adage often used in television or film for when a series has overstayed its welcome, and must try more and more ludicrous scenarios to keep viewers interested.

The phrase was coined after the show Happy Days featured Fonzie, played by Henry Winkler, literally jumping a shark..
