1 2 Prayagraj: For an effective crowd management during the Maha Kumbh-2025, the Mela police authorities have drafted a detailed plan to regulate the flow of devotees after identifying the highest crowd density areas using crowd analytics software . Focussed management efforts will be made at the key spots within the mela campus—Kali Sadak, Parade, Akhara Marg, Sangam Noze, and Ganga Prasar Kshetra to manage the crowd. The crowd management plan will be enforced on all six main snan days.

With crowd numbers expected to swell significantly on the main snan days, as well as the day before, police are focusing on crowd control at all the ghats and streets leading to Sangam. Additional DG (Prayagraj Zone) Bhanu Bhaskar told TOI, "Mela police authorities have developed a crowd management plan to control the flow of devotees at the ghats. The plan focusses on the major Mahakumbh snan, particularly Mauni Amavasya, when over 6 crore devotees are expected to visit the tent city.

" The police will regulate the crowd movement at all the ghats on main snan days, ensuring that no one spends excessive time at the ghats, said Bhaskar. AI technology will be used for crowd density assessment at the static points like ghats, streets in and out of the mela campus, and public areas. To avoid overcrowding at the critical points, the mela police are working with IT experts to finalize technologies for crowd management and accurate people counts using AI predictive modelling.

Additional forces and volunteers will be deployed at the five main spots—Sangam Noze, Kali Sadak, Akhara Marg, Ganga Prasar Kshetra, and Parade—for improved crowd management during the ‘snan', anticipated to draw millions of devotees. In 2019 Mauni Amavasya snan , a joint team of mela police and IT experts used over 400 high-definition cameras at the Integrated Control & Command Centre along with crowd analytics software, identifying Sangam Noze as the most densely populated area with 3.19 persons per square meter, followed by Kali Sadak, Peepe ka Pul, Akhara Marg, Ganga Prasar Kshetra, and Parade.

SSP (Kumbh Mela) Rajesh Dwivedi noted that vehicle entry around the mela campus (near Sangam) will be fully restricted on main snan days to ensure devotees have sufficient space to move around without difficulty. Drawing on the data from past Kumbh Melas, authorities are fine-tuning crowd management strategies. More than 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel will be deployed on the main snan days.
