Teacher suspended for organising 'baby shower' for student at school

In Vellore, a government school teacher was suspended after organizing a baby shower ceremony for a pregnant Class XI student within the school premises. The incident surfaced when videos were shared on social media. The chief education officer has ordered an investigation and issued notices to the involved staff members.

Image used for representational purpose only VELLORE: A teacher of a govt girls' higher secondary school was suspended on Thursday pending inquiry on charges of creating a 'reel' of holding a ' baby shower ceremony' for a Class XI girl student, who was pregnant, within the school premises in a village near Vellore . The 'ceremony' was attended by her classmates. The incident happened more than a month ago but came to light after videos of the minor girl's 'baby shower ceremony' were widely shared on social media platforms, said Vellore chief education officer Manimozhi.

The CEO ordered a probe into the incident besides suspending the girl student's class teacher and served a notice to the school headmistress seeking an explanation in this regard. "We suspended the teacher in question and served a notice to the headmistress. We have ordered a detailed probe into the incident by the district education officer.



We will take appropriate steps based on the findings of the inquiry," said Manimozhi. The CEO had directed the authorities concerned to offer counselling to students, parents, and teachers on refraining from posting inappropriate videos on social media platforms for the sake of garnering more likes and following. She directed teachers to spend more time with students, even during lunch hours, to keep a tab on students' activities.
