A teacher accused of attempting to murder his former partner is to face a retrial. Matthew Jones, 28, allegedly stabbed Emma Kirk multiple times after they met in a lane in Bath on 26 February this year. Mr Jones has denied attempted murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A jury at Bristol Crown Court was discharged on 9 September after failing to reach a verdict. At a hearing on Tuesday, prosecutor Mark Worsley told the same court the Crown Prosecution Service would be seeking a retrial. Judge Julian Lambert listed the case for 24 March, 2025.

Mr Jones, who did not attend the brief hearing, will also face trial for a second count of possession of a bladed article in a public place..
