Surat/Bharuch: A couple working as government primary school teachers were found murdered in their bungalow in Valiya town, around 25 km from Bharuch, on Thursday. The victims, Jitendrasinh Bodadara (56) and his wife Lata (53), were brutally killed with their throats slit at their residence in Ganesh Garden Society that houses several bungalows and plots. The crime came to light late on Wednesday night.

Jitendrasinh taught at Vijaynagar primary school, while Lata worked at Bhilod primary school, both in Valiya taluka. Valiya police, along with teams from the local crime branch (LCB), special operations group (SOG), dog squad, and forensic sciences laboratory, have launched a detailed investigation to trace the assailants. In the absence of CCTVs in the house or society premises, police are relying on scientific, technical, and human intelligence to crack the case.

The incident was discovered after the couple's elder daughter, who lives in Vyara town of Tapi district, repeatedly failed to reach her parents on Wednesday. She alerted her maternal uncle, who grew suspicious and informed the police. The police broke open the door and found the blood-soaked bodies inside.

"In response to the alert, we forced open the main door and found the couple murdered," said R C Vasava, in-charge police inspector of Valiya. The couple's younger daughter is married and lives in Chikhli town of Navsari district, but is currently in Paris, Vasava added. Bharuch district superintendent of police (DSP) Mayur Chavda, ASP Ajay Kumar Meena, and senior crime branch and SOG officials arrived at the crime scene to oversee the investigation.

The bodies have been sent for forensic postmortem, and police have begun analyzing call detail records (CDR) of the couple's phones. Given the deep wounds, police suspect the use of a large, sharp-edged weapon. Initial suspicions of a robbery were ruled out as cash and valuables remained intact.

"The main door was locked from the inside, but the assailant may have locked it by reaching through a design gap meant for ventilation. No weapon was found near the bodies," said a police officer.
