Tenino’s Brynn Williams and Tumwater’s Alexandra Broome are no strangers to the Pasco stage. Williams, in her third appearance at the state championship meet Saturday, Nov. 9, was the top runner for the Beavers for the third straight year, finishing in 39th with an impressive time of 20 minutes and 57 seconds.
She set a season record at state each of the past two seasons prior to this fall, and her final state meet cemented her third-best mark of the year. Broome, who earned 45th last year as a freshman, elevated her standard with a 40th-place finish at 20:21, good for her third-best time this season. Broome finished her sophomore campaign with eight straight runs under 21 minutes after recording a 21:25 outing on Sept.
18. Williams was joined by juniors Haley Huber and Samantha Smith, who finished 98th and 114th, respectively. Despite finishing 15 spots back from her first Pasco trip in 2022, she did it in 19 fewer seconds at 22:35.
Smith set her second-best time of the year at 23:14. For Tumwater, Broome made the trek east with sophomore Raegan Smith, who clocked in at 22:22 to take 113th in her state debut. At the 1A level, Rochester senior Mercedies Dupont extended her streak of sub-22 minute runs to three with a 62nd-place finish of 21:40.
Her three fastest times this season all came with championship stakes. Sophomore Seraschel Aldrich shares the same statistic as her elder teammate, as she recorded her third-best time at 24 minutes flat to take 136th. Centralia junior Elyse O’Dell clinched a top-100 placement in Pasco for the second time in her career, taking home 96th at 21:45.
Black Hills senior Makenna Legault represented the Wolves as the lone qualifier and crossed the finish line in 23:03 for a 130th-place finish..
