A recent NBC poll found the Democrat party at an historic low in favorability. Only 29% of those polled liked the Dems. And, as would be expected, the GOP was overcome with happiness.

Headlines boasted that the Democrat part was “broken”; that it would soon fade into obscurity. All of which is to say that, once again, the Republicans are working to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Those who ignore history serve a cruel mistress.

After twelve years of success, George H.W. Bush broke his promise that there would be no tax increase and he immediately fell victim to Bill Clinton and the Dems.

President Trump and his bro, Elon, could be on the same path. Polls tell us that the voting public overwhelmingly approve of the effort to reduce the size, scope, and waste of the federal government. And, despite the efforts of an unprecedented number of district judges, they seem to be succeeding.

And therein lies the seed of their future rejection by the voting public. DOGE is using a sledgehammer when it should be using a scalpel. Most of us voters are in favor of fair and equal treatment of our friends and enemies and, true or false, there are examples surfacing that tell a different story.

Let’s look at the effort to rid the government of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. By-products, in the Department of Defense, include: Elimination of the history of the famed Tuskegee Airmen; elimination of internet links to the gravesites in Arlington National Cemetery for the graves of Black, Hispanic and Native Americans who are buried there, such as General Colin Powell, the first Black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs; and the elimination of Black History Month, among many others. To be fair, many of these misguided actions have been corrected, and those responsible blame the use of Artificial Intelligence for them.

There is also an unconfirmed report that some are the result of malicious mischief on the part of bureaucrats who are members of the “resistance” working to defeat President Trump’s agenda. But voters will remember them. This failure also holds true for the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Trump promised the “largest deportation ever” and commissioned Tom Homan to carry it out; and it proceeds with great vigor and success. But once again, the national and local press, who, to put it mildly oppose the Trump administration and all it stands for, pick and choose examples of excess ..

.all of which may be true or false. For example, there has been a hue and cry about a young barber who was identified by a tattoo as a member of the Tren de Aragua gang and was deported to El Salvadore as a criminal.

By all accounts, his tattoo was misidentified and signaled his love for his family. Then there was the young girl who awaited heart surgery, a legal citizen of the US but the daughter of an illegal couple. She was deported along with her parents, evidently a collateral victim of those who were closely associated with criminal illegals.

And there are more stories like these to come, because the press is looking for them and ignoring the successes of Mr. Homan’s efforts. They will resonate and be remembered in the 2026 midterm elections.

Homan’s haste makes waste. For the GOP, the message is clear. While you have control of the congress, your assistance and legislative support of President Trump is essential.

No more discourse on issues that satisfy ego; instead, get to work to satisfy the desires expressed by the voters in the last election. And you might want to emphasize the irony of the Democrat verbiage. Remember when they tried to impeach President Trump for using the word “fight” when addressing the crowd that eventually protested at the capital? Compare that to what the Dems are saying now and their muted response to the burning of Tesla dealerships and vehicles.
