ST. LOUIS — Taqueria Morita, the Mexican restaurant from the owners of the acclaimed Vicia, will close after service Saturday (Jan. 4).

The brick-and-mortar location of Taqueria Morita opened in April 2024 at 4239 Duncan Avenue in the Cortex district of the Central West End. The concept originally debuted in 2022 as a pop-up on the pavilion outside Vicia. In both forms, the menu has featured tacos and other Mexican fare while highlighting seasonal ingredients.

Co-owner Tara Gallina said Taqueria Morita "just wasn't doing well." While she is proud of the restaurant, she said, "I just don't think it was the right concept for that space at this time." Take Root Hospitality, Taqueria Morita's parent company, will not be opening a new concept in the building at 4239 Duncan.

For now, Gallina said, the group will focus on its current restaurants: Vicia, which is also located in Cortex in the Central West End as well as Winslow's Table in University City and Bistro La Floraison in Clayton. Taqueria Morita will be open Friday and Saturday from 4-8 p.m.

" Come eat all our tacos and drink all the tequila," the restaurant's closing announcement says..
