Tanya Sweeney: ‘I treated myself to a €500 ‘investment’ coat and it filled me with terror and guilt’

I don’t tend to pay too much mind to Facebook ads, but something about this coat immediately caught the eye. The twinning of pink and blue wool and mohair threads made a vibrant purple. The herringbone weave was one that I was sure would never go out of style.

I’m not one for falling in love with inanimate projects, but this was definitely something approximating lust at first sight. My mother-in-law had noticed it too online. She’d had something very similar, many years ago.



A great coat, it would seem, could last decades if you looked after it well enough..
