“We pray for the best. This man could not manage his department well but can manage a full facility?” one staff member questioned, referencing the MRI Unit’s frequent technical issues.More pointed criticism came from staff who suspect political motivations behind the appointment.
Dr. Abdulai, a native of Karaga in the Northern Region, contested the 2024 parliamentary elections on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket. “If this appointment is indeed politically motivated, then unfortunately we should prepare for more avoidable deaths in the facility,” one concerned employee stated.
Another lamented what they perceive as a pattern of leadership changes based on political allegiance rather than merit.However, some colleagues have voiced support for the new CEO. One staff member noted, “I’m glad people aren’t questioning his ability and competence, only his political affiliation,” while expressing hope that Dr.
Abdulai would elevate the hospital’s standards.The appointment comes as part of broader leadership changes initiated by President John Dramani Mahama, following the dismissal of former CEO Dr. Adam Atiku who had served since 2023.
