Christmas decoration preferences are different for everyone, and while some will like neutral, subtle and understated, others prefer the whole 90s shebang. Those who are partial to something a little more tacky will have reason to rejoice as the "childhood" themed Christmas trees are back with a bang - and people couldn't be happier about it. Think maximalism, tinsel, garish baubles in all different colours - the less they match, the better - different pop culture references scattered all over the tree, and maybe even a Jellycat festive decoration or two if you've managed to get your hands on them.
TikToker @enchantednails_byebony posted a video of her Christmas tree, captioning the clip: "Childhood 'tacky' Christmas complete," as she showed off the way she chose to decorate her fir - and the rest of the room around it. There were very 90s-vibes decorations on the walls, with paper garlands adorning the ceilings in a multitude of colours. A mini Santa decoration was on the floor, and he could be seen holding a Christmas gift - which you might be the recipient of if you've been nice this year.
Tonnes of tinsel could be seen on the tree, with so many metallic colours, including golds and pinks, and the baubles were a mismatch - with some more traditional baubles in festive colours but other decorations in the shapes of stockings and even disco ball-shaped ornaments. While Ebony said her decor was "tacky" herself, others were quick to point out they didn't find it the case at all, and the "nostalgia" they felt was thanks to her decorations. "It's not tacky at all, it's exactly how Christmas should be," someone penned in the comments, while another added: "This is how it should be.
" Other comments included: "It just looks so much happier and joyful though. I much prefer a tacky, colourful tree", "Love this! Bringing back the good old colourful tacky Christmas trees and decorations" and "Best tree I’ve seen. Lovely and colourful.
How a Christmas tree should be". Taking to Reddit, one person even said "Christmas was better in the 90s," admitting they were feeling "very nostalgic" for Christmases gone by, and it was thanks to the wild decorations that used to evoke true feelings of festivity. It was a "unique moment in Christmas decorating history, blending traditional elements with modern technologies and materials," according to We Play Among You.
