Taaruk Raina says, "I don't why Ram Madhvani trusted me" on landing the lead role in The Waking of a Nation

After winning hearts with his performance in Mismatched, Gen Z favorite Taaruk Raina is ready to captivate audiences in a never-seen-before avatar. He is all set to star alongside Nikita Dutta, Sahil Mehta, and Bhawsheel Singh Sahni in the much-anticipated historical thriller, The Waking of a Nation. As seen in the teaser, Taaruk Raina playing the role of Kantilal Sahni, a lawyer, is all set to take the audience on a thriller ride with his intense and compelling transformation.Reflecting on landing the lead role in the series, Taaruk expressed his disbelief at being part of the show. He said, "I don't know why he (Ram) trusted me for this. I could never figure it out. But it's his faith that made me do what I do in the show. I didn't know Ram at all before my meeting with him in his office. When I met him for the first time, I was very scared because I had heard that he is very on point and that there is no room for mistakes and there is a lot of rehearsals, which is all there is, but he turned out to be the nicest guy out there, and I was very relieved with that.”Speaking further about his admiration for Ram Madhvani and his work, Taaruk shared, “It amazes me how much love and passion he has for something he is making. For a person who has already accomplished so many incredible things in his life, the drive and sheer desire to create something amazing is truly inspiring. At this stage in my life, even if I have half of that, I win.”Meanwhile, Ram Madhvani employed a distinctive approach not just in filming but also in meticulously casting the actors to capture the essence and authenticity of the story. Talking about his methods of shooting, he delves into the innovative filming technique that breathes life to this series."I’ve often been told that I’m an actor’s director. I am truly in service of my actor. I believe in the landscape of the human face. When we tested these actors, I found that there was a freshness to them along with an innocence and hunger, which suited the script. To add to that, the way I shoot is quite different than what most actors are used to. I shoot in what we call 360 style, where I take extremely long shots, almost documentary-style, to get to the truth of the moment. In fact, for The Waking of a Nation, the longest shot I have taken is 90 minutes! So firstly, these actors needed to have excellent memory because they needed to remember the lines. I needed actors who would not only be good actors but who knew how to not ‘act’ and who would submit to my 360 degree system. I am really happy with the truth and emotion and soul that these young actors have brought to The Waking of a Nation”, said the filmmaker.Directed by the visionary Ram Madhvani, The Waking of a Nation is a historical thriller that delves into the events leading up to the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre along with the Hunter Commission's investigation into the tragedy.
