1 2 3 4 Ludhiana: A 25-year-old man was killed and four others injured in a free-for-all clash between two groups in which stones were pelted, and swords and hockey sticks used without a second thought, at Mohalla Fateh Singh Nagar , Daba, on Tuesday night. Locals claimed that the clash was the fallout of a rivalry over peddling drugs. CCTV footage of the incident showed the brutality of the clash involving at least 20 persons.

A group of 12-15 people, including a woman and some of whom looked like teenagers, could at first be seen pelting stones at the other group. However, when one of them collapses, the others run away and then 8-9 men arrive with hockey sticks and continue to hit the lifeless man on the ground. They then proceed to brutally thrash another man with hockey sticks, while the others run away.

Police said the accused and even the victim were facing multiple FIRs and there was an old rivalry between the two groups. However, the incident yet again shows growing lawlessness in the city. Sub-inspector Gurshinder Kaur, SHO of Daba police station, said police are verifying the angle of drugs behind the scuffle.

Prima facie, she said, it seemed Jagroop had a rivalry with a group of men who attacked them. The deceased man, Jagroop and some other aides already have FIRs against them. The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, she said.

SI added police have registered a case against the accused under various sections. Search is on for the accused. Earlier, deceased Diljit Singh alias Kaka (25), a resident of Preet Nagar, Shimlapuri, had gone to meet his friend Jagroop Singh at Mohalla Fateh Singh Nagar before the clash.

The two men were standing on the street with some friends when the other group of men reached there. The evening then took a violent turn. Diljit’s brother, Rahul, said a local informed him about the incident that his younger brother had been severely injured.

He rushed to the spot and took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. On getting information, police reached the spot. Some locals claimed that some miscreants from both groups were involved in drug peddling and they had a fight over the same issue.
