KUCHING (Dec 15): The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) brought together over 100 participants to its eco-enzyme workshop here recently. The programme, themed ‘How to Retain the Blue Sky’, took place at Chung Hua Middle School No 1 in Pending here.

ACCIS, in a statement issued yesterday, said the hosting of the workshop was part of the association’s initiatives towards advancing environmental sustainability, in line with Sarawak government’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. The initiative was also supported by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak; Natural Resources and Environment Board; Kuching South City Council (MBKS); Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Eko Enzim Malaysia. Political secretary to the Premier, Kho Teck Wan, represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian to officiate at the opening ceremony.

In her opening remarks, Kho shared with the attendees the state government’s insights on PCDS 2030 and its commitment to sustainable growth. “By actively advancing clean energy initiatives and carbon reduction policies, Sarawak aims to strike a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation, paving the way for sustainable societal progress,” she said. ACCCIS president Kong Chiong Ung, meanwhile, highlighted the role of the business organisation in promoting environmental protection.

He expressed hope that this event would serve as a starting point to inspire and engage the community towards contributing to such conservation efforts. Kong also thanked other private firms for their support towards the state government’s environmental sustainability policies. “The private sector plays a vital role, whether through the development of green energy, innovation in environmental protection technologies, or the adoption of more eco-friendly production models,” he said.

The workshop participants, comprising business professionals, farmers, educators, students, medical practitioners, community leaders, retirees and also housewives, were enlightened on how the eco enzyme, a mixture of fermented organic waste, could be used in farming, home and personal care. A hands-on learning session was also held during the workshop where they learned the process of the eco enzyme production..
