Some of Sussex’s most historic sites will be throwing open their doors as they prepare to welcome families this half term. Sites across the county will host a number of family-friendly events next week to allow children to learn about the past and “have a huge load of fun”. Events including live combat demonstrations, medieval surgery and Halloween trails are among the plans across Lewes, Chichester and Hailsham.
John Baldock, general manager of Sussex Past, said: “With something for everyone, make sure you don’t miss the chance to step back in time and enjoy our exciting family events at Fishbourne Roman Palace, Michelham Priory and Lewes Castle this October half term. “We look forward to welcoming you this Autumn with a chance to learn about the past, enjoy our range of family-friendly activities and have a huge load of fun.” Events begin in Michelham Priory in Upper Dicker this weekend with autumn crafts weekend while Lewes Castle will give visitors to learn more about Bonfire Night in the town.
Fishbourne Roman Palace will also host its Roman Army Week, giving children a glimpse into the life of a solider. Lewes Castle will then also host live combat displays on Saturday, November 2..
