Sussex Police is to review its existing strip search policy after a landmark gender ruling. Last week, The Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex, in a decision which is expected to have far-reaching implications in a number of areas - including policing. Sussex Police have confirmed that in light of the ruling, they will need to review their policies including those related to strip searches.
In a statement Sussex Police said: “Sussex Police is considering the impact of this case on its policies and practices, which will require review of the full ruling in consultation with and on direction received from the National Police Chiefs’ Council.”.
