An artist renowned for his inflatable monsters is coming to Newhaven. Bruce Asbestos, originally from Sussex, has gained international acclaim for his imaginative art pieces. He is now bringing his new and existing works to the Marine Workshops in Newhaven, East Sussex, for an exhibition called "New Pop Max".
The exhibition will run from April 19 to June 7. Asbestos is known for mixing everyday objects with high art, fashion, and global pop culture, creating a unique visual identity. His work is described as "witty, seductive, and extravagant".
He has previously exhibited across the UK and in locations such as Bangkok, Colorado, and Germany. His work will launch alongside his Uniqlo Tate Play commission, which will occupy the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern in April. "New Pop Max" will feature Asbestos' popular inflatable creations, including Egg Cat, Octopus, Bootleg Shreg, and the mysterious Hooboos, as well as new paintings.
The exhibition is family-friendly and promises a "hyper pop visual feast". A spokesman for the event, said: "There will be nothing else like this happening across the region in 2025." The event is part of a collaboration with Towner Eastbourne and Lewes District Council.
The exhibition is free to visit and open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. There will also be a programme of evening events, family-friendly workshops, and school visits running alongside the exhibition..
